Shofar Service

Our sages teach that hearing the shofar on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Teruah, the day of blasting, is best fulfilled in person. This year you will enjoy this most essential High Holy Day mitzvah while sitting comfortably and safely in your car at either Shearith or Levine Academy, during one of our six parking lot services. Our klei kodesh and ba’alei tekiah (shofar blowers) will treat you to a shofar experience you won’t forget! Space is limited and advance registration is required. For questions on this, please contact Sarah Katz at skatz@shearith.org.

The week of September 14th you will receive a confirmation email that will double as your ticket into the Shofar service. Please print and bring with you to gain admittance into the parking lot.

Once you indicate that you plan to attend a Shofar service, the location and time options will appear below.

Volunteering
The High Holy Days offer abundant volunteer opportunities, especially this year as our celebrations and worship are mostly virtual. For questions on this, please contact Katie Babin at kbabin@shearith.org. Volunteer opportunities include:

Youth and Family Services
We’ve planned many special services and activities for our youth and young families! On Rosh Hashanah, Day 1, please join us for a Young Family Gathering Moment, led by Rabbi Shira Wallach at 9:45 am.

You can watch services on-demand in our comprehensive video library on the Portal. Watch services for Young Families (Infants – Kinder), Youth in 1st-3rd grade, and Youth in 4th-7th grade. Your family can enjoy the services when it is most convenient, and you can watch again as many times as you like!

Additionally, we’ll offer Zoom gatherings for school-age children. Please list the names and grades of your school-age child/children who would like to participate. Options include Zooms on Rosh Hashanah Day 1 and 2 and Yom Kippur. More information will be sent to you closer to the High Holy Days.

High Holy Day Food Drive
Each year our Social Action High Holy Food Drive provides much-needed donations to support families struggling with food insecurity. This year we are not taking physical donation at Shearith Israel. Please consider making a monetary donation to Jewish Family Services Food Pantry and/or MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger.
